As an avid reader, English major, and general lover of books – The Book Loft in German Village is a place where I could happily get lost forever.

The Book Loft Location And Parking In German Village

The Book Loft is located at 631 S. 3rd Street, Columbus, Ohio in the heart of historic German Village. It’s just a few miles south of Downtown Columbus and is right next door to Stauf’s Coffee.

The best parking is street parking on South Third Street. Be sure to watch the signs and have the Park Mobile app handy just in case it’s not free parking where you decided to stop.

Don’t worry about parking super close because you can spend plenty of time walking up and down South Third Street taking in the gorgeous views or grabbing a pastry at Pistacia Vera or Kittie’s Cakes or even a bottle of wine at Hausfrau Haven.

History of The Book Loft In Columbus, OH

The Book Loft of German Village has been open since 1977! This historic 32 room book store is in a Pre-Civil War era building and it is absolutely stunning.

If you enter from the brick path off South Third Street, you’ll be welcomed with gorgeous landscaping that truly makes you feel like you’re in another world. But, that’s the goal of reading, is it not?

You can check out some pictures from each decade here on their website. It’s pretty awesome to see that type of history.

The 32 Rooms of The Book Loft

The answer is everything! I mentioned there are 32 rooms and they put great use to each and every room. They even have a patio area at the front entrance that boasts clearance or deeply discounted books.

My first suggestion before heading around The Book Loft is to bring a bag or pick up one of their literary themed canvas bags to purchase with your goodies.

Throughout this independently owned bookstore, you’ll find a huge array of fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, cookbooks, and so much more. There are way-finding signs all around so you won’t get lost but just in case, they have printed maps at the front desk to help you find exactly what you’re searching for during your shopping trip.

There are also plenty of non-book items like cards, calendars, bookmarks, t-shirts, etc. but the books are truly the star of The Book Loft. Each and every time I visit, I find something for myself or my kiddos.

The Book Loft Hours

The Book Loft has pretty straightforward hours! They are open seven days a week from 10AM-11PM. Yes, until 11PM!

I’ve always said that a dreamy fall date would be dinner at one of the many delightful restaurants in German Village (like Chapman’s!), an after dinner coffee, finished with a late night book shopping trip at The Book Loft.

Also, if you are looking to save a little money during your shopping trip. You can head to their website and download their 2022 coupons. They even offer a discount if you wear one of their T-shirts while shopping!
