A club sandwich is one of my favorite lunch time sandwiches! While the traditional version is delicious, here is a recipe for the best pork free club sandwich. It’s super easy to make and super delicious.

Club sandwich with turkey bacon.

Club sandwich purists, please don’t yell at me for this pork free version! I (Hannah) don’t eat pork but I LOVE a good lunch sandwich, so I created a pork-free one. Don’t worry, it’s still very delicious.

What you need to make a pork free club sandwich.

Let’s talk ingredients first. Here’s what you need, layer by layer.

  • Sandwich Bread. I prefer a solid white bread. If you want to make your own, this is my favorite recipe. But, we love the Pepperidge Farm Hearty White bread.
  • Sliced Deli Turkey. You want fairly thin slices of turkey, you can either grab it at your deli counter or get the pre-packaged version. I personally like any turkey variety from Boar’s Head!
  • Tomato + Lettuce. Bonus points if you get one from your garden. I will not because I basically have a black thumb.
  • Turkey Bacon. I can’t personally compare turkey bacon from pork bacon because I don’t eat the latter but I use my air fryer to cook it and it gets nice and crispy! I really like the Columbus brand turkey bacon, we get it at Costco.
  • Cheese. We used cheddar and white cheddar cheese for our turkey club sandwich. You could swap for a different cheese, just make sure it’s hearty enough to stay together when it’s cut.
  • Mayo/Mustard. I love mayonnaise and I don’t care who knows it. But, mixing mayo and mustard together is DELISH. You just need a bit on this sandwich to make it oh so good.

Now, that’s a lot of ingredients. A club sandwich is pretty hearty, even if it doesn’t have pork.

There are a few different spots who believe that they created the club sandwich, which you can read all about on the wiki page. Also, how amazing is it that in 2021, a SANDWICH has it’s own page on Wikipedia. It makes me giggle.

Regardless of who invented it, I’m happy they did because it’s a great lunchtime staple. It’s fairly unique because it can be a bit tricky to assemble.

A few more club sandwich recipes.

Head to the recipe to see the exact steps to make sure your sandwich stays together, it’s all about the right layers… and toothpicks. But, before you go there – let’s talk about some club sandwich variations in addition to this pork free recipe.

  • California Club Sandwich from The Baking Fairy.
  • Mediterranean Club Sandwich from NeighborFood.
  • Club Sandwich with a Fried Egg from The Adventure Bite.

Course: dinner, lunch
Cuisine: American
Keyword: club sandwich, easy recipe, pork free
Prep Time: 10 minutes minutes
Servings: 1 club sandwich

Ingredients

  • 3 pieces favorite sandwich bread
  • 1-2 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1-2 slices white cheddar cheese
  • 6 pieces turkey bacon cooked
  • 4-6 slices turkey deli meat
  • 1-2 slices fresh tomato
  • 2 Tablespoons mayo
  • 2 Tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2-4 pieces romaine lettuce

Instructions

  • Mix the 2 Tablespoons of mayo and 2 Tablespoosn of mustard together and set aside.
  • Toast your bread. On one piece, spread the mayo/mustard on BOTH sides of the bread. On the other two pieces, layer it on only ONE side of the bread.
  • On one of the one sided mayo/mustard pieces of bread, start to assemble your club sandwich. Place 1-2 pieces of romaine lettuce, one slice of cheddar cheese and one slice of white cheddar cheese. Then you will add your sliced turkey followed by 2-3 pieces turkey bacon, then a sliced tomato.
  • Next, you want to add that double sided mayo/mustard piece on top of your first layer of sandwich. Then, you can assemble the next layer.
  • On top of the middle piece of bread, layer your 1-2 pieces of romaine lettuce, one slice of cheddar cheese and one slice of white cheddar cheese. Then you will add your remaining sliced turkey followed by 2-3 pieces turkey bacon, then a sliced tomato and finish with your remaining piece of bread.
  • You will probably need a toothpick to hold your delicious sandwich together and then slice into 2 or 4 pieces. Serve with potato chips and enjoy!
