We received a few containers of Stash Tea as part of their blogger contest. All thoughts, opinions, and recipes are our own.

Lemon Shake Up for 1 with Lemon Ginger Stash Tea

I’m not kidding when I say this is my new springtime beverage of choice. I love a good ol’ classic lemon shake up, you know, the one that has like 2 cups of sugar in it from the fair. But, this one trumps it with the zippiness of the ginger and added benefits of the tea.

Before we get too deep, let me share some fun facts about Stash Tea. They were founded in 1972 in Portland, Oregon and have a lovely story about their company name. “Drawing inspiration from old tea folklore, we named our company after the small, valuable β€œstash” of tea that was often given to the captain of the ship tasked with transporting it around the world.” Love. That. So. Much.

Since you are going to fall in love with Stash Tea as much I have, you will probably want to take advantage of this 10% discount! Use promo code “THEBEARDANDTHEBAKER-SC” when you checkout or use this link here and the discount will automatically be there when you checkout. Cha-ching!

You’ll notice that this lemon ginger tea comes in cute little tea bags but this recipe is for a cold beverage. You’ll need to steep your tea for 3-5 minutes in hot water then place in the fridge or freezer until it cools down. You could do this the night before or like 20-30 minutes before you want to make your shake up.

There is usually a bit of interpretation allowed for our recipes on The Beard and The Baker and this time in comes in lemon choice. I actually used meyer lemons because they were cheaper than regular ones and #letsbudget. I love meyer lemons because they are a bit sweeter than plain ol’ lemons but you could absolutely use regular ones!

Since you must use fresh lemon juice, you need a good juicer. We have one like this but I’m dying to get a little handheld one like this too. I mean it’s like $8, so I should probably just buy one.

Once your lemon ginger tea is nice and chilly, you can toss all your ingredients into a cocktail shaker with some ice. I want to note that I know it’s trendier to have lemon ginger tea with honey but do NOT substitute honey for sugar here. It won’t mix together and will be gross. Keep the honey for your nightly lemon ginger tea, not for your springtime afternoon shake up.

Don’t be alarmed by the pink color, it’s from the lemon ginger tea leaves and totally normal. Plus, I actually think it looks extra spring-timey and perfect for Sunday brunch. I mean this would pair perfectly with this brunch recipe!

Course: Drinks
Prep Time: 30 minutes minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes minutes
Servings: 1 person

Ingredients

  • 8 oz water
  • 2 Stash Lemon Ginger Tea Bags
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • ice

Instructions

  • Make your Stash Lemon Ginger Tea Bags by steeping in hot water for 3-5 minutes. Remove tea bags and place hot tea in fridge for at least 30 minutes to chill. You can also toss in the freezer if you want it to cool down faster, just be sure you don't do it in a glass container or it may shatter from the temperature difference.
  • Once your tea is cold, pour into a cocktail shaker. Add fresh lemon juice and sugar then cover with ice. Shake for at least 30 seconds to ensure sugar is mixed well with tea and lemon juice.
  • Strain lemon shake up into glass filled with ice. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

*I used meyer lemons for this recipe, which are a little bit sweeter than regular lemons. Either will work beautifully but I wanted to call that out in case you thought the lemons looked weird.
*You could add 1 oz of vodka or gin to make this a boozy shake up.
