Homemade pizza dough in 15 minutes?!

We LOVE homemade bbq chicken pizza in our house (okay we love all homemade pizza) and we are telling you our secret to easy and delicious homemade pizza dough.

The secret MVP is Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Yeast!

We always have a few packets of this yellow and blue yeast in our pantry because you never know when the urge for homemade pizza will hit. Since it’s RapidRise® yeast, you can literally have fresh pizza dough in less than 15 minutes. That’s quicker than delivery, y’all.

Plus, homemade always tastes better, let’s be real. Luckily Fleischmann’s® RapidRise® Yeast is there for us.

Let’s talk about this yeast, though.

First, it’s no secret that we love to bake from scratch. I mean, we have just a few recipes showcasing our joy for baking quality, yeast recipes that we are so proud to share.

Also, gift giving is one of my love languages, so you better believe I love when I can share my homemade goodies with friends and family. My mom actually stopped by when we made this pizza and took some home with her. Warms my soul.

Here are some tips for cooking with yeast.

  • Don’t be scared! Baking with yeast is fun and easy, especially with the RapidRise® yeast.
  • Your water should not be hot, but rather lukewarm (120 degrees F – 130 degrees F), and you should really use a digital thermometer to test it. If it’s too hot, it will kill the yeast.
  • Your yeast should not be expired. Yeast is living (cool!), so you need to make sure it’s “in date” or else it won’t work as well and won’t get that “rise” that you need.

What ingredients do I need for bbq chicken pizza?

There are many recipe variations for bbq chicken pizza and none are wrong! Yes, even the ones with pineapple. I’m totally team pineapple on pizza, please don’t yell at me.

But, here are all the ingredients we used for our version of a delicious bbq chicken pizza.

  • Yeast. We just got finished telling you all about that, so I think you are pretty up to date there.
  • BBQ Sauce. The bbq sauce base for this pizza is homemade too! Head to the recipe to see all the ingredients for our tangy bbq sauce. But, we also won’t judge if you just snag a bottle of Sweet Baby Ray’s to use as your pizza base.
  • Veggies. We used green onions, jalapeños, and white onions for our toppings. If you want to make your BBQ chicken pizza spicy, opt for fresh jalapenos with the seeds still in ’em.
  • Mozzarella Cheese. Just please don’t use cheddar cheese. I think that’s so weird on pizza.
  • Chicken. Well, obviously a bbq chicken pizza needs chicken. I personally vote for crispy chicken but you could go grilled too if you’d like.

Pizza Dough

  • 1 3/4 – 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 envelope Fleischmann's® RapidRise® Yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup very warm water (120 – 130 degrees F)
  • 3 Tablespoons canola oil

Tangy BBQ Sauce

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder or 2 cloves minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

BBQ Chicken Pizza Toppings

  • 1/2 cup tangy bbq sauce for base
  • 1/2 cup tangy bbq sauce for swirl topping
  • 1 1/2 – 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup green onions diced
  • 2 Tablespoons jalapeños fresh or jarred
  • 1/4 cup onions
  • 1/2 cup prepared grilled or crispy chicken diced

Instructions

Pizza Dough

  • Preheat oven to 425°F.
  • Combine 1 cup flour, undissolved Fleischmann's® RapidRise® Yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Add very warm water and oil; mix until well blended, about 1 minute. Gradually add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Dough should form a ball and will be slightly sticky.
  • Knead on a floured surface, adding additional flour if necessary, until smooth and elastic, about 4 minutes. Then, let dough rest on counter for about 10 minutes.
  • Pat dough with floured hands to fill greased pizza pan or baking sheet. OR roll dough on a floured counter to 12-inch circle; place in greased pizza pan or baking sheet. Form a rim by pinching the edge of the dough.

Tangy BBQ Sauce

  • Add all ingredients to a small saucepan. Whisk until well combined.
  • Bring ingredients to a boil then lower to a simmer and cook for a minimum of 20 minutes then continue to cook until desired texture.

BBQ Chicken Pizza

  • Spoon bbq sauce on prepared pizza dough into an even layer. Add cheese, onions, jalapenos, and chicken.
  • Bake on lowest oven rack for 12 to 15 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and crust is browned.
  • While pizza is in oven, spoon 1/2 cup of bbq sauce into a small baggie to use for swirl. Set aside.
  • Remove pizza from oven. Snip the corner off your bbq sauce baggie and swirl bbq sauce around top of pizza. Then, top with green onions, slice and enjoy!

Notes

*If you don’t have a thermometer, water should feel very warm to the touch.
**To knead the dough, add just enough flour to the dough and your hands to keep the dough from sticking.  Flatten dough and fold it toward you.Using the heels of your hands, push the dough away with a rolling motion.  Rotate dough a quarter turn and repeat the “fold, push and turn” steps.  Keep kneading dough until it is smooth and elastic.  Use a little more flour if dough becomes too sticky, always working the flour into the ball of dough.
