We received a few containers of Stash Tea as part of their blogger contest. All thoughts, opinions, and recipes are our own.

I love chai spice tea. I love chicken wings. I loveee my air fryer. Put those all together and you have a heck of a good party snack. We decided to use some chai spice tea to brine chicken wings and it was a FABULOUS idea.

If you’ve never brined chicken or turkey before, let’s break it down. Brining basically means to “soak or preserve in salty water.” It’s fairly typical to brine a turkey for Thanksgiving, but it’s also a great way to make any sort of poultry super flavorful and super moist.

In steps Chai Spice from Stash Tea. We cold brewed 8 bags of their flavorful and aromatic tea, added some salt and sugar and then added 2 pounds of fresh chicken wings. Toss it all in the fridge for 24 hours and BAM, tasty brined chicken wings.

PSA: you’ll need to purchase the chai spice tea bags from Stash Tea and you’ll get 10% off if you use our code (THEBEARDANDTHEBAKER-SC) or follow this link here!

Once you remove the brined chicken wings from the brine liquid, you can rinse a little bit if you’d like. They can taste a little salty since ya know, they’ve been sitting in salt water for 24 hours. We didn’t rinse ours but I love salty food so it definitely didn’t bother me but to each, their own. Then, you can toss these babies into the air fryer for 30 minutes so they are nice and crispy and amazingly flavorful.

Prep Time: 40 minutes minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes minutes
Brining Time: 1 day day
Total Time: 1 hour hour 10 minutes minutes
Servings: 4 people

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds fresh chicken wings
  • 8 bags Stash Tea Chai Spice
  • 4 cups cold water
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh ginger sliced
  • 1/4 cup kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Fill large glass container with 4 cups cold water. Add 8 Stash Tea Chai Spice tea bags and let cold brew for at least 30 minutes. Remove tea bags and set aside, do not throw away.
  • Add salt, sugar, and fresh ginger to cold tea. Whisk for a minute or tea until combined. Set aside to prepare chicken wings.
  • Add chicken wings to a gallon size plastic bag. Gently pour tea mixture into bag of chicken wings (CAREFULLY). Cut strings off tea bags and add to wings + tea plastic bag. Place in fridge for at least 24 hours.
  • When you are ready to cook your wings, preheat air fryer to 390 degrees F. Remove bag of chicken wings from fridge. Pour entire contents of bag into a strainer to rinse off the brine. You can also gently rinse under cold water if you don't want them to be too salty.
  • Once air fryer is preheated, add brined wings and cook for 20-30 minutes. At 20 minutes, they will be fully cooked but closer to 30 minutes, they will be super crispy. Be sure to also rotate them every 5 minutes so they cook evenly.
  • Remove from air fryer and enjoy!

Notes

If you don't have an air fryer, you can also cook in a regular oven at 450 degrees F for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through.
