Secret Ingredient For Buffalo Chicken Casserole

You’ll find loads of recipes on the internet for buffalo chicken casserole. We might be biased, but we think this might be the best one.

And it’s because it has a pretty delicious secret ingredient…Extra Wide Egg Noodles!

We love these Creamette Extra Wide Egg Noodles for so many hearty and cozy dishes. They do such a great job of soaking or holding in all the rich and delicious flavors for cozy dinners on chilly nights. Especially over here in Ohio because as I’m typing this, it’s about to snow.

All of the ingredients for buffalo chicken casserole laid out on a kitchen counter before assembling the recipe.

The best ingredients for buffalo chicken casserole.

This is such a hearty and perfect Ohio dinner. I feel like this will be one of those dishes that kids of millennial parents will remember from their childhood.

Here are the ingredients for this creamy and spicy and delicious meal.

  • Creamette Extra Wide Egg Noodles. Find these in the green bag at your local grocer.
  • Shredded Chicken. You can buy a rotisserie chicken or shred the chicken yourself.
  • Buffalo Sauce. You can use any kind of buffalo sauce you like. Also, if you don’t love it to be extra spicy, you can put in a little less or more if you like extra spicy.
  • Cream Cheese.
  • Shredded Cheese. I recommend a mixture of mozzarella and cheddar for a little variety.
  • Dried Garlic, Paprika, Pepper, Onion Powder, Salt.
  • Butter.

How To Make Easy Buffalo Chicken Casserole

The best thing about making a casserole, they are SUPER easy to make. It takes just a few steps and is done in about 45 minutes, half of that time it’s in the oven!

  • Prepare your shredded chicken. You can purchase a rotisserie chicken, use store bought shredded chicken from the deli or prepare it yourself at home. We opted for making it ourself and used this recipe here.
  • Prep your Creamette Extra Wide Egg Noodles according to package instructions. You can toss them in a little bit of oil after they are done cooking so they don’t stick together.
  • While your noodles are boiling, you can prepare the sauce. Melt the butter and then add the buffalo sauce, softened cream cheese, and seasonings. Whisk together until totally melted, about 6-8 minutes. Add the chicken and mix until combined.
  • Pour the chicken buffalo mixture into a large bowl then add the Creamette® Extra Wide Egg Noodles and stir till combined. Add half the cheese and combine.
  • Then, you add to a greased glass dish and top with the remaining cheese and a half of the green onions.
  • Toss in the oven and bake for 20 minutes!

When you remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes before digging in. Then, try not to eat it all in one sitting. It’s seriously addicting and something your whole family will love while sitting around the table together.

While buffalo chicken might be our favorite cozy Ohio dinner, these other recipes will make you just as happy.

  • No Bean Chili. If you don’t like beans (like my husband) then this chili recipe is perfect for you.
  • Caramel Apple Snickers Salad. While this isn’t cozy, it’s definitely Midwestern. Spoiler, it’s not actually a salad.
  • Taco Pie. Probably one of my most favorite family recipes.
