A Twist on the Classic BLT, Duck + Avocado!

If you guys don’t already know, I (Hannah) do not eat pork. I had a bad experience when I was in high school volunteering at a church camp and had to cook bacon for like 500 people. It SCARRED me. Plus, pigs are my favorite animal so I just don’t eat any type of pork. Okay, well sometimes I sneak some sausage and gravy when The Beard gets it at breakfast. Whoopsie.

Anyways, the point of me telling you all of this is that today I’m sharing a recipe for a twist on the classic BLT! We were sent some duck bacon from our friends over at Maple Leaf Farms for #cookoutweek.

First things first for a fabulous sandwich is to get some wonderful bread. We opted for some a thick white bread then slathered it with some butter to get some nice grill marks. We live in an apartment on the second floor so we can’t have grills on our balcony. Darn. Instead, we have a grill pan just like this one and it works awesome!

I also have to say that this non-stick frying pan from All-Clad is legit the BEST. We have two of them in varying sizes and we literally use them for everything. It works wonderfully for frying everything but especially the duck bacon for our BLT sandwiches.

Once you get your grilled bread and duck bacon ready, you are ready to assemble your sandwiches! First things first, grab some mayo and slather some of that on there. I’m Team Hellman’s but you can obviously use any type of mayo/dressing for your sandwiches. You could argue you don’t need mayo because you are using avocado but honestly, mayo is better so you should just use both.

Then, you just layer up your BLT! The typical BLT is bacon, lettuce and tomato but we are adding a little twist on that classic by adding some other yummy things. I guess the acronym would be DBLTA … duck bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado!

I just love this sandwich because it’s super simple but so filling and delicious. When you  have perfect ingredients that fit perfectly together, you don’t need a ton! Bonus points if you use fresh from the garden tomatoes, that will seriously make this BLT to the next level.
