Spooky Sprinkled Brownies | Easy Halloween Treat #HalloweenTreatsWeek

Let’s make some Halloween decorated homemade brownies.

It’s almost Halloween, YAY! I love this holiday. I don’t go crazy with decorations (mostly because I’m lazy) or costumes but I just love all the festivities and fun … and Hocus Pocus on repeat. What I do go a little nutty on is festive treats, like these adorable spooky sprinkled brownies.

I think it’s a fact that festive desserts taste better. Luckily our friends from Wilton and Sweets & Treats hooked us up with these adorable sprinkles and candy pumpkins and bats.

Even if you aren’t a great decorator, you can definitely make these spooky sprinkled brownies! Karen at the preschool Halloween party won’t be able to keep up.

Heck, you could even forgo the Halloween decor and make brownies sprinkled with powdered sugar. No-one will be mad about any of these sprinkled brownie options!

I’m usually a purist when it comes to my fudgy brownies. But, the cream cheese frosting on top here is PERFECT. It’s such a decadent little dessert, so you might want to opt for cutting these brownies into smaller pieces.

Speaking of, are you an edge or middle brownie person?!

I’m actually not discriminatory against either – but I do love the little crispy edges on corner brownies pieces. Did you know there are pans that just make brownie edges? People think of everything.

Ingredients (and tools) for homemade sprinkled brownies.

  • Brownie Pan. I didn’t have a legit brownie pan until like 3 months ago when The Beard snagged this one for me on Amazon.
  • Orange Sprinkles. Sweets & Treats are my favorite brand of sprinkles. They are so cute and are such a good price.
  • Candy Pumpkins + Bats. Wilton has such awesome candy decorations for Halloween or really any holiday. You can grab them on their website or head to a craft or grocery store to see their options.
  • Rubber Spatula. You need a really solid rubber spatula to mix this brownie mix because it can get pretty thick. This one is great because it’s all one piece and won’t get moldy where wood connects to spatula.
  • Cocoa Powder. This is our absolute favorite cocoa powder. During the holidays, you can find it at Costco for an insane price. Stock. Up.

A few of our other favorite Halloween treat recipes:

  • Graveyard Pudding. This is literally one of my most favorite Halloween desserts ever. A spooky play on dirt pudding.
  • White Chocolate Ghost Cupcakes. Fluffy and delicious cupcakes topped with frosting and cute ghosts. What could be better?
  • Halloween Snoballs. These little treats are so fun and darn tasty. They would be perfect for your Halloween party.

Ingredients

Brownies

  • 1/2 cup + 2 Tablespoons butter melted
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup melted chocolate
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips optional
  • 1/2 cup Halloween sprinkles
  • Wilton candy pumpkins + bats

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

Brownies

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Line a brownie (9×9) pan with parchment paper or A LOT of butter.
  • Add melted butter to a mixing bowl. Whisk in the sugar until smooth and combined.
  • Then, add eggs and vanilla extract. Mix until combined, roughly 1 minute.
  • Add your melted chocolate and whisk until smooth and combined.
  • Using a rubber spatula, stir in flour, cocoa powder, and salt until just combined. If desired, add chocolate chips.
  • Pour brownie batter into prepared pan and use rubber spatula to create a smooth, even layer.
  • Place in oven and cook for 30 minutes. Let cool in pan for at least 30 minutes. Remove and be sure they are totally cool before covering in cream cheese icing and sprinkles, bats, and pumpkins!
  • Slice into desired size of pieces and enjoy!

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • Add butter and cream cheese to stand mixer or large bowl. Mix with stand or hand mixer until creamy – about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add vanilla extra and salt then stir to combined.
  • Add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, and mix on low so it doesn't fly out everywhere. Continue to add until full incorporated and frosting is fluffy!

I love Halloween but I don’t know if I have a specific dessert that comes to mind that is specifically Halloween (since you can make anything Halloweeny with a cute ghost or pumpkin on top of it. There are definitely fall desserts like pumpkin pie and candy apples. But my fav Halloween dessert must be graveyard pudding… which is just chocolate pudding with oreo crumbs and tombstone decorations.
