The Best Steak Sandwiches with Balsamic Onions

I remember watching an old episode of The Next Food Network Star where their challenge was to make a perfect sandwich. You might think that that seems like the easiest challenge ever. Wrong. It’s a feat to make a perfect sandwich! Think about it. You have to have the right amount of topping, condiment, protein and bread so that every bite is the exact same. That can be rough. But, we are here to help you create the next best sandwich with some balsamic onions.

We used a sweet white onion for this dish. You could definitely mix it up and use a red onion or a yellow onion but it might change the flavor a bit. For example, if you use a red onion, your finished product might have more tartness than if you use a sweet onion. You could also use pearl onions and serve these as a side dish instead! We did that one year for Christmas dinner and it was a hit around the table. balsamic onions

We used our balsamic onions for some homemade steak sandwiches but you could use these for so many dishes! Toss these babies on a salad, in a frittata or on top of some chicken. Actually, I think I just figured out what we are doing with our leftovers. How flawless would these be on top of some grilled chicken and a side of jasmine rice? Yes, please.

Back to creating the perfect sandwich. You want every single bite to taste the same which means layers are your BFF. We started with some of our beautifully seared steak then our balsamic onions and some tears of fresh basil. Then, we finished it off with a few freshly sliced tomatoes topped with oregano and then some freshly sliced mozzarella. Place it all between two slices of soft-ish bread and you are good to go.
