Five Family Friendly Restaurants in Northwest Columbus

We love enjoying food at local restaurants around our hometown. When we added a child to that mix, we didn’t want to give up on that enjoyment! Together, we’ve rounded up our five favorite places to take our toddler for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Check them out and share with us what your go-to family spots are for when you aren’t cooking at home!

Los Guachos

  • 5221 Godown Rd. Columbus, OH 43235 (they have two locations, but this one is our favorite!)
  • Los Guachos holds a special place in our heart because we lived about 5 minutes away for two years. It was my go-to for when I had a pregnancy craving for Mexican food. We love it now because they have a newly updated dining room with plenty of room + highchairs. Their décor is super colorful and eye-catching for kiddos. They also have a great kid’s menu with items for $2. But, their tacos are $2-$3 if your kiddo is adventurous and wants to enjoy a big kid meal!

Rusty Bucket

  • Multiple locations all across Columbus.
  • We love the Cameron Mitchell company (yes Rusty Bucket is owned by them!) and Rusty Bucket is no exception. Not only do they have locations all around the city, they have family-friendly events throughout the year. For example, they have a Santa brunch every year that sells out immediately! Their environment is warm, friendly and you’ll see kids all around. Their kid’s menu boasts some awesome items including their “Kids Livewell Items” like a Kid’s Veggie Pizza and Kid’s Grilled Fish.

City BBQ

  • Multiple locations all across Columbus.
  • City BBQ has locations all across the country but they hail from Columbus so I deem them local. I’ve loved City BBQ ever since I was a little kid and I love that they are now a part of my child’s life! Their dine-in experience is great for kids because it’s whimsical with farm-featured décor all around and a buffet of sauces for them to expand their palates. You can get them something off their kid’s menu (like homemade chicken tenders) or order one of their Sample the City options to get a little bit of everything for the whole family! City BBQ also hosts “Kid’s Eat Free” days a few times throughout the year so make sure to watch their social media for those exciting events!

La Chateleine

  • Three locations across Columbus but Worthington is our favorite –
  • Saturdays in the summer include us heading to the Worthington Farmers Market and then grabbing brunch at La Chatelaine afterward. This is where our daughter learned she loves croissants more than any other piece of bread. I love this option because you can enjoy their food in so many ways! They have an amazing bakery with options like macarons, fruit tarts and freshly baked baguettes. You can also enjoy their breakfast options like quiche and French Toast. You guessed it, they also have French focused options for lunch and dinner too! While they don’t have a designated kid’s menu, their prices are very affordable and it’s never a bad thing to have some yummy leftovers to enjoy later! Bonus points for Worthington, you can also do a little bit of leisurely shopping afterward.

Sassafras Bakery

  • 657 High St, Worthington, OH 43085
  • We love love love Sassafras Bakery. I’m pretty sure that AJ (the owner) has the secret to the world’s best cookies. The chocolate chip cookies with sea salt are mouth-watering. On Saturdays, she created themed decorated sugar cookies and they are as adorable as they are delicious. Some of my favorites have been Santa, monsters, American flags and even Block O’s! But, the most family friendly thing of all is her “Milk and Cookies Happy Hour” from 3pm-5pm Wednesday through Friday. Purchase a cookie during that time and get a free glass of milk or coffee!
